8 Important Golf Rules For Beginners

Golf is a very simple game if you are acquainted with the rules and make this rules your habit while playing one can be the highest scorer in this game. Lets discuss some basic rules without which you might be the biggest loser in the green.

It is not important whether you are a good player or just setting your foot on a golf course, the basic thing is that to know the game thoroughly before you start it. You'll be all lost if you are uncertain with the mechanics of the game, conducted course and of course with the maintenance of the game which is very important.

Some Fundamental rules to be noted before entering the Golf Course :

1. Within four hours one should complete a round of Golf counting eighteen holes.

2. It will be wise if one lets a proper and efficient person to start and hit the farthest one.

3. Before hitting one should be sure that the target (hole or green) is clear and no one is near while swing.

4. Round of fourteen is what a golf club allows in a golf bag. Having more may lead to penalties.

One has to be very cautious while playing. Keeping pace in this game is a necessary part. Playing fast may prove a losing point for one. Some simple and important points are mentioned below to keep oneself steady and maintain an appropriate speed in golf course.

5. One should calculate the score after going out from the green by clearing it up as soon as possible with ones group.

6. It is not necessary that the other group goes faster one has to maintain the same pace, one can allow them to play fast by keeping own speed and proceed.

7. One can spend maximum 5 minutes to search for the lost ball.

And the point of utmost importance that a golfer should always keep in mind is that :

8. Before starting one should be sure that there are enough tees and golf balls which will help the player to complete his round till the last.

Golf is a stimulating challenge combined with getting out in the fresh air in pleasant surroundings. A round of golf is not only enjoyable, it is an excellent way of exercising, as an average 18 holes usually involves walking between six and seven kilometers.

Golf is a unique all round sport which can be:
* Played by people of all ages
* Adaptable to fit your availability
* Played alone or in groups
* Played at different levels - social or competitive

There are very few other sports that can provide all of the above, so it is hardly surprising that there are an estimated 1.7 million regular golfers in Great Britain.
Golf is a very popular sport amongst celebrities and sporting heroes. Many enjoy golf in their leisure time and can often be seen playing in pro celebrity tournaments.

Perfecting Your Golf Swing

On the driving range I often see golfers swinging to the top of their backswing and stopping and trying to see if the golf club is positioned correctly. Naturally this is a very, very hard way to tell if the backswing is in "the slot" so to speak.

If in the past you've struggled to know if your golf backswing is correct or not then today I've got a great golf drill that will allow you to quickly and easily check it.

To do this golf drill you simply have to swing back to the top of your backswing and stop and hold your backswing position for a couple of seconds.

Then from this position simply slowly loosen your grip and let the shaft fall down. If the golf club hits you on the tip of your right shoulder then that strongly indicates that the top of your backswing position is good. If the golf club misses your body when you do this then that is a sure sign that your backswing is too flat. And conversely if your club hits your head or neck that indicates that your swing is too upright.

Now if after doing this backswing exercise you find that your top of the backswing position is not where it should be then please don't do this:

Do not try to manipulate what is happening near the top of your backswing to get the club in a good position, because you must understand that the golf swing is a chain reaction. Let me explain that some more by looking at what happens when you impact the golf ball.

The impact position you get into when you swing is a result of the downswing position that you were in. The position you get into in the downswing is a result of how you transitioned from your backswing position to the downswing. The position you get into at the top of your backswing is simply the result of the position you were in half way into your backswing. Where the club is half way into your backswing is simply the result of how you took the club away. And finally, the way you took the club away is largely a result of your setup.

You see, you can't take one position in your golf swing in isolation and then try and fix that because the positions that you got into before that determined the future positions. Instead what you need to do is systematically work on getting each phase of the swing the best it can be, working from the setup, take away and on from there. If you do that you'll naturally and automatically get into a great top of the swing position.

How to Improve Your Golf Game: 3 Tips

Golfers are bombarded with advertisements for the latest fabulous, amazing high-tech golf equipment, clubs with the magic power of wizard's wands and golf balls that soar far out into the heavens, or behave as they are being operated by remote control.

Every golfer dreams of improving their golf game, so most of us are conditioned to believe we need the latest and greatest equipment to achieve our goals.

Shop Online for Discount Golf Equipment
There's no doubt that having good equipment should be part of a golfer's strategy to improving their game. And fortunately, because of tremendous discounts on equipment offered at shopping sites all over the Internet, the best clubs are not out of reach for even the most budget conscious golfer.

Shopping for equipment online may take getting used to, but the savings are well worth it. Step one in your game improvement strategy is to give yourself the competitive advantage of having the best equipment available.

Practice will improve your golf game.
There are two other often overlooked ways of improving your enjoyment of the game of golf: playing more and practicing more. Only a small fraction of golfers ever take lessons, and that's a shame, because a trained golf teacher can quickly spot flaws in your swing that you are totally unaware of. Why not take some of the savings on equipment you earned from shopping online, and putting those dollars toward a series of lessons? (Most professional teachers offer discounts if you sign up for a block or series of lessons, rather than booking them one-at-a-time).

Play more and improve your golf game.
And then, get out there and play more. Increasing your frequency of play is the best way to truly get a feel for the game of golf, so the club always feels comfortable in your hand, rather than like some foreign object you have just become acquainted with. But you say, greens fees are too expensive these days, and your golf budget is maxed out? There are solutions for this problem as well on the Internet. You can get coupons for discounts on greens fees of up to 50%, purchase passes for discounted play, or even get free rounds of golf. Besides saving tons of money, you might find great courses to check out that you have never heard of before.

Try these three strategies together: Get the best equipment at discounted prices, spend more time practicing and learning the game, and get out there and play more frequently. You'll be surprised how many strokes you can shave off your average score.

How To Find Men's Golf Shoes That Will Help Your Golf Game

The right type of golfing shoe is essential to the game of golf. If you are a golfer and take your game seriously then you probably wear the right type of shoes. Wearing these types of shoes isn't required but will help you when you golf. Some golf courses however are strict on the type of shoe you wear on their courses. Most men usually beginners don't wear golf shoes. Most of those men do not know the importance of a good pair of golfing shoes either. Most of the men out there would probably play in their running or walking shoes rather then spend more money on a pair of shoes just for golfing.

The whole point to buying a pair of golf shoes is when you are swinging you don't want to slide. When you are taking your swing it provides you with stability and comfort for your big swing. There are spikes on the bottoms of these shoes which give even more traction. It provides you with traction after a rainy day on the course. If you think golfing shoes are not for you then wait till you slip on the green then you will know why they are good for you.

When you are looking for the best type of shoe you should consider a few things. You will first need to determine how much room you need in your shoes. The next thing is how hard your swing is. If you stand wide then you need a shoe that grips if you stand regularly then you can probably get any type of shoe. The type of shoe for players with a wider stance is those for an open soled shoe. The last thing your shoe will need is support and to fit properly. You should consider that buying a shoe made of special materials is good too.

Golfing shoes come in all sizes sorts and colors. Over the past couple of years the golf shoe has changed a lot. If you are still going to wear regular shoes when you are golfing at least need to wear a type of shoe that has good grip. You never will want to wear shoes that have a slick bottom and could cause you to slip and fall while you are golfing. When you golf and as you swing your feet probably turn and you will need traction or you could really hurt yourself.

The best type of shoe you should wear when you golf is the one that will grip and give you your swing the most. You do not want a golf shoe that slips when you swing because you could be trying for a record drive and slip and fall hard and really hurt yourself, so be careful when choosing your golfing shoes.

How to Save Money on Golf Equipment and More

What most golfers don't know about saving money and enjoying the game more. It's as simple as this: Golfers can save money on golf and still play their beloved game.

Too many of us end up paying full retail price for clubs at a pro shop when great deals on the same equipment are available online. Or we cheerfully pay the posted greens fee when with a little Internet research we can find discounts as much as 50% to play at terrific courses all over the world. Then there's the double mistake we make on a golf vacation: first we overpay for the hotel room and then compound the error by paying too much for golf.

A vast universe of savings for golfers is right there at our desktop computer. All we have to do is know how and where to look. Besides opening our eyes to savings, we can become much more educated golfing consumers. We can discover discount travel packages to some of the top golfing resort areas in the world, including South Carolina, Florida or Arizona. It is definitely possible to play the courses you've always dreamed up and not have to take a second mortgage out on your house. And you don't have to limit ourselves to golf in the United States. On the Internet we can learn, for example, that it's possible to book a golfing cruise? Yes, you can golf on your Caribbean vacation! Or how about visiting great courses in Spain or the Mediterranean and still staying within budget. You can.

There are so many choices to save money on equipment that it's almost mind boggling. Besides discount retailers of brand name clubs, you can buy direct-from-the-manufacturer "clone" clubs that are nearly the same quality as the famous name clubs for a fraction of the price. You can visit auction sites and name your own price for the equipment you want to buy. You can sell your old clubs online and turn around and bid on new ones! It's even possible to have demo clubs delivered directly to your door, try them for 5 days and decide if you want to make a purchase. If you don't, just send the demo clubs back with no further obligation.

A lot of us have been conditioned to believe our passion for golf comes with a hefty price tag. With the Internet as our ally, that is not the case anymore. We can spend less, play more rounds of golf and have more fun.

Golf Clubs - A Beginners Guide

With the help of movies like Tin Cup, The Legend of Bagger Vance, Happy Gilmore and of course the comedy classic Caddyshack, the sport of Golf is quickly becoming less of a sport to sneer at and more of a sport to play if you want to seem 'cool'.

Recent ad campaigns include 'Play Golf America' in which A list celebrities say 'Play golf America!' into a camera.

But much confusion surrounds golf. For a sport that seems to be all about getting a tiny ball into a tiny hole that is very far away, a lot of emphasis has been placed on using the right club to get the ball to its destination.

There are woods, irons, wedges, putters and utility clubs/hybrids.

Which Golf Clubs Are Which? A Beginners Guide

The Woods are actually made of metal, but they are called woods because that is what they used to be made out of. The woods are thought to be the hardest club to master because they are the longest. The longer the club, the harder it is to control the swing of the Golfer.

These clubs have some 'oomph' in them and are designed to send the ball great distances. They are good for beginners because they are easier to hit than some of the other clubs.

Irons got their name because they are made out of metal (which is redundant because now all golf clubs are made of metal). The head of the club is thin and has a grooved face. These clubs are good for the teeing ground and are used to help a ball climb as it gravels the course of the green.

Trickier Golf Clubs - The Thin End Of The Wedge(s)

The Wedges are often sold separately from the rest of a golf club set. They are used when the Golfer wants greater control over the accuracy of his shot. Shorter shots often call for a wedge. They were created to help golfers have an easier time of getting out of the sand traps on the golf course.

The Putter is the golf club that is the most widely used. They come in three different lengths and because there are so many different varieties, choosing a putter is often a very personal process for a golfer. They are designed to be used on the putting green of the golf course.

Not Forgetting The Lifesavers - Hybrid Golf Clubs

The Utility Clubs/Hybrids are becoming more popular among golfers because they are easier to hit. These clubs combine elements of the woods and the irons.

Because they have elements of both clubs, the Utility Clubs/Hybrids are used to make the 'mis-hits' fewer and farther between than if a golfer just stuck to either a wood club or an iron.

Those are the major player golf clubs in all golf bags. Knowing what kinds of golf clubs are used can help it much easier to learn how to play the game.

Deciding On A Golf Degree, Surprising Advantages

Although you can get lessons at your local golf club, there are many reasons why you might want to pursue a golf degree at a professional golf academy. Even if you have no intention on going pro, you may be surprised at the advantages that such a program may confer.

The first advantage that a golf degree offers is time. Everyone today is concerned about making the best use of his or her time, and a serious approach to your golf game can offer you just that. Consider that when you go to your golf club you are there primarily for fun. You may sign up for lessons or instruction as well, but these lessons are not intensive and they only take place sporadically. In contrast, a golf academy places you in an intensive study environment. In just one week of instruction in this environment you can learn what it would take you months or even years to learn through the occasional lesson at your club. You can still have a fun time as you learn, but with an instructor helping you every step of the way, you improve rapidly and dramatically.

Of course, when you pursue a golf degree, you also save time and money at your local golf course. Since one week at a professional academy hones your game dramatically, you save money you would spend on occasional lessons at your course or club. One week in a professional learning environment can cost far less than years of occasional lessons and the results are much better. Once you have been studying golf seriously by pursuing a golf degree, you also reap the rewards on the green, not only in your enjoyment and proficiency at the game, but also in terms of time. With your golf game mastered, you can spend more time playing and less time fretting over decisions or missed chances on the course. You will be able to move through the course not only more confidently, but also at a better pace.

You certainly don't need to have aspirations of a professional career in the sport in order to benefit from a golf degree. Of course, if you do want a career in the sport, then professional instruction is a must. However, even if you only play from time to time, there are many benefits to getting serious about learning golf. One reason for professional instruction is that only professional help will get you past a certain stage in your game. Practice will help you improve your game, but only a professional can help you once you reach a certain level. If you have been improving steadily and have suddenly reached a stage where your game is not improving much, you have just unknowingly reached a danger zone.

When you hit a roadblock in improving your game, you may suddenly get frustrated and may be tempted to quit golfing entirely. In many cases, the problem is simple and can be quickly resolved with the help of professional instruction. You may have a few bad habits, for example, that make your drives inconsistent. If you simply stop playing or enjoying the game, you will have wasted all the time you invested in golfing to get to this stage. All the money you have spent on fees and equipment will be wasted, and, of course, you will lose the fresh air, exercise, and camaraderie you enjoy on the course. Rather than give up the game entirely or let a minor snag ruin your fun, professional instruction is the ideal answer. A professional instructor can breathe life into your game, help you over the hump and can help you infuse your game with a new sense of enjoyment.

7 Must Have Golf Career Profiles

If you are looking for a golf career, but are afraid of being lost in the low-paying, low-prestige end of the industry, pay close attention to this: While it is true that there are an abundance of such jobs, there are also many more prestigious golf jobs for talented, devoted golf enthusiasts.

Many people believe that in order to pursue a golf career, they will have to be content with low-end industry jobs. Before you worry that you will spend your entire career as a golf shop cashier or in food service at the golf club, however, consider these seven exciting careers.

7: Trick Shot Artist. Imagine a golf career in which you get paid to goof around. Trick shot artists make their living with a combination of golf skills and a knack for entertainment. In this career, you would spend your time choreographing and practicing astonishing or entertaining stunts, and then get paid to show off your bag of tricks in front of an audience. There's no better way to have work feel like play!

6: Golf Journalist or Photographer. With a career in golf journalism or photography, you could get paid to attend golf events. Golf journalists and photographers cover tournaments and other events, and their articles can be syndicated nationwide, depending on the popularity of the event. People who can write intelligently and expertly on golf are in demand, as well as those who know what photographs are important to get and how to get them. If you really know your golf, but you also enjoy writing or photography, try doing both with this fabulous golf career.

5: Golf Broadcaster or Commentator. Like with golf journalists and photographers, those who enter this golf career are required to know the game like the back of their hand. Many people who watch golf do not fully understand the game, so they rely on broadcasters and commentators to tell them what is going on, in addition to making any pertinent comments about the game. Golf broadcasters and commentators also need to have excellent speaking voices and plenty of charisma. These qualities are also found in those who pursue high-visibility careers such as news casting and entertaining.

4: Tournament and Event Planner. You will be able to tell people that you put together popular golf tournaments. Event planners are important in the golf industry. Think of all the major and minor tournaments in the golf industry, as well as innumerable other events, and you will see that this golf career offers job security as well as bragging rights.

3: Caddie. Believe it or not, caddies are a big deal in the realm of professional golf. A caddie is a pro golfer's right-hand man, knowledgeable about the game and able to anticipate and even recommend a player's next move. Because the role of a caddie is so important, it provides the opportunity for an astonishingly successful golf career. Good caddies are highly sought after, and the best may even be asked to caddie for top golfers during major tournaments.

2: Golf Player Manager. A golf player's manager is an important person. The manager provides a buffer between the player and the rest of the world, protecting the player from bad business deals and rabid fans alike. A manager needs to have a knack for knowing what makes money (and what doesn't), as well as strong negotiating skills. Some managers also handle the PR aspect of pro golf; those who do will need to have a strong connection with the media, and a sense for how to encourage good publicity. However, there is little that is more rewarding than managing a successful pro golfer.

1: Professional Golfer. It probably won't surprise you that the number one prestigious golf career is being a professional golfer. Pro golfers get a lot of attention in our society: They are interviewed on TV and radio, profiled in magazines, covered in newspapers, and photographed constantly. Television stations broadcast their games, sports experts write opinion columns on their careers' promise, and debate the quality of their performance. Professional golf is above and beyond the most visible career in the industry, and as such is typically the most sought after as well.

If you are looking for a golf career, don't think that you have to choose between being a pro golfer and working on the golf course maintenance crew. There are many desirable careers in the golf industry. Next time someone tells you you'll never make it as a golfer, be prepared to rattle off all of the prestigious careers in the industry, starting with these seven.

Golfing Legends and What Put Them There

While there are many golfers in the world who do quite well at the links, there are a few that can be considered to be golfing legends. Among these legends are men who have walked on every golf course in the nation and played some of the toughest holes in the world. These men have shown themselves to be consummate professionals again and again in the golfing world.

Adored by millions, cheered by the world, these golfing legends have risen through the ranks to become the best of the best at what they do. With names like Arnold Palmer, Jack Nicklaus and Tiger Woods, the ranks of golfing legends are getting somewhat crowded as the years pass. But among all these legends is a strong work ethic and a drive to succeed that has led all these legends to become successful and wealthy over the years of playing golf professionally.

These golfing legends have become legends because of the hard work, determination and drive to succeed that kept them going hole after hole, and course after course. Through the blazing Florida heat and into the frigid waters of Michigan's lakes, these golfing legends have earned their legendary titles through hard work and diligence over the years. While it remains to be seen who the next golf legend might be, it is quite obvious what put these golf lessons on the map in the first place.

While skill and talent can take you far in the world of professional golf, as it's very unlikely that you will do well without these qualities, only hard work and dedication to your craft can bring you the status of golfing legend enjoyed by people such as Arnold Palmer and Jack Nicklaus. While it might seem strange to think of working hard in the world of golf, it is true that golf legends spend many hours on the links improving their swing, putting and driving at great lengths.

This obsession for perfection and dedication to the craft of playing the game of golf is largely responsible for these incredible golfing legends that America worships and emulates. It is easy to see that a standard practice routine can improve even the best golf game, to the point that this practice and routine of constant improvement can create a golf legend where once a golf enthusiast stood. Only hard work, dedication and a continued commitment to the craft can bring the amateur golfer to the status of golf legend over the years. These golf heroes have reached the status of golfing legends through extreme observation of the strict principles of dedication, determination and drive.

The dynamics behind the flight of the golf ball offers a fascinating insight into the physical interworkings of air pressure, turbulence, and aerodynamics.

When golf was first played in Scotland, most players played using clumsy golf apparatus, with the first golf clubs and golf balls made of wood.

In 1618 the "Featherie" was introduced. It was a golf ball made of feather. This feather golf ball was handcrafted from goose feathers tightly pressed into a horse or cowhide sphere while still wet. After drying, the leather shrank and the feathers expanded, creating a hardened golf ball.

As this type of golf ball was specially handcrafted, it was usually more expensive than golf clubs, so that only a few privileged people could afford to play golf back then.

After the Featherie golf ball came the Guttie golf ball. This type of golf ball was made from the rubber-like sap of the Gutta tree found in the tropics, and was shaped into a sphere when hot and eventually into a golf ball. As it was made of rubber, the Guttie golf ball could be cheaply produced and easily repaired by reheating and reshaping.

Comparing the two types of golf balls, the Featherie golf ball was said to travel farther than the Guttie golf ball because the Guttie golf ball's smooth surface prevented it from covering more distance.

With this discovery, the developers of golf balls came up with the "dimpled" golf balls that are so predominant in modern golf nowadays.

The dimples on the golf balls help reduce the aerodynamic drag. Aerodynamic drag normally affects smooth golf balls and slows them down, because when they sail through the air, they leave a pocket of low-pressure air in its stir thus creating a drag.

By applying dimples to the golf ball surface, the pressure differential goes down and the drag force is reduced. These dimples create turbulence in the air surrounding the golf ball, which, in turn, forces the air to clasp the golf ball more closely. By doing so, the air trails the warp created by the golf ball towards the back instead of flowing past it. This results in a smaller wake and lesser drag.

Dimples were first added onto golf ball surfaces back during the gutta percha phase. Coburn Haskell introduced the one-piece rubber cored golf ball encased in a gutta percha sphere. Then in 1905 William Taylor applied the dimple pattern to a Haskell golf ball, thus giving rise to the modern golf ball as we know it today.

After its beginning, dimpled golf balls were officially used in every golf tournament. In 1921, the golf ball took its current form with standard size and weight. Nowadays there is a wide range of golf balls to fit every style, game and condition, with some golf balls offering control, and other golf balls offering distance.

Though a common sight nowadays, the dimpled golf ball is not just a mere element of the sports arena; it is a showcase of physics at work.

How To Golf

One of the most common swing mistakes for the amateur golfer is the slice, an unwelcome shot that creates much side-spin on the ball causing it to cut hard to the side. It is a frustrated golfer who plays a slice and he will find it very hard to correct. Many golfers have bought tools of the trade guaranteed to fix the problem of the slice, but their frustration and disappointment deepen when they find that in most cases nothing is improved.

The fundamental process of fixing a slice lies in both the swing and the body. Research from the University of Southern Carolina has found that there were some specific swing drills that could cure that most horrible of golfing flaws. These broke the swing down into several manageable parts, all to be practiced alone at first to train the body into the right action. This prevents confusion, since it is very difficult for brain and body to process all the information required all at once.

Once the swing is broken into parts, the process is simplified, allowing the golfer to work on the part that needs fixing before implementing that action into his full swing. One of these two drills that were found to work so well is called the toe-in drill. As may be imagined, this drill helps the positioning of the golfer at all times through the swing. The second drill is called the split hand. This assisted the golfer to feel not only the correct release of the club, but also its swing path.

There is a good drill to do in front of the mirror that will help you ascertain your swing path and correct it, especially if you swing from outside-in. Setup as if you were going to hit a ball through the mirror, and take a very slow swing, stopping halfway through the follow through. Can you see your nose? Hopefully not: the club head should have it covered (in the mirror, of course).

You'll have to keep your head up to see this next drill. Take swings while you watch the blur of the club go through your mirrored eyes. This should happen on the follow through too. If it doesn't, adjust your swing until it does.

It is safe to say that if a golfer were to get the correct tuition for his posture and stance in the first place, from professional coaches who know what they are doing, the problem of the slice would be almost eliminated. Many amateurs take their first lessons from their friends who may or may not know the correct procedures. It is also a good idea to ask a coach whether that book or video you were going to purchase is indeed written or developed by someone who is experienced enough to give advice.

It is also important to work on developing core flexibility as well as flexibility in shoulders and limbs. How your swing develops will be to a great extent determined by your posture, which will in turn be determined by your flexibility. When you have developed in this area, you'll see a great improvement in your golf game generally, not just your swing, so it's worth the effort.

The PGA TOUR - Golf's Elite

Headquartered in Ponte Vedra Beach, Florida, the PGA TOUR is the organization responsible for overseeing the professional golfers we watch on tv every Sunday. They were, until 1968, affiliated with PGA of America but broke away to form The Tournament Players Division mostly so they could have more of a say in the tournament schedule but also to better control their finances. They play over 100 tournaments a year on three seperate Tours - the PGA TOUR, the Champions Tour and the Nationwide Tour. That's a LOT of golf!

Besides providing a competitive atmosphere for its members, the PGA TOUR also generates millions in revenue for over 2000 charities around the world and in communities here in the US. Among them - Alzheimer's Foundation, Salvation Army, Teach for America and the Katrina Relief Fund to name a few.

It is the responsibility of the PGA tour to run The Players Championship, the Presidents Cup, and all the other regular events on the PGA Tour. However, it doesn't run the Ryder Cup or the first four majors (The Masters, The U.S. Open, The British Open, PGA Championship), nor does it run any of the women's tours. Some of these fall under the jurisdictions of the PGA of America, the US Golf Association and the LPGA (Ladies Professional Golf Association).

Back in 1981, due in part to a marketing dispute, the PGA Tour temporarily changed its name to the TPA Tour (Tournament Players Association) but by March of 1982 had resolved the issues and changed the name back to PGA TOUR. And yes, it's officially spelled PGA TOUR (all capital letters).

Thinking of joining?

To become a member of the the PGA TOUR you must finish in the top 30 at the annual Qualifying Tournament or Q-School. It is quite literally a school where the survivors of the first 3 stages advance to take classes held by the PGA TOUR to introduce the attendees to the rigors of tour life. To get to this stage, players have to qualify through stages 1 and 2 (more than 72 holes each) then on to stage 3 where they'll play another 108 holes over the course of a week, usually in early December. Entry fees back in 2004 were about $12,000, - on average about $4000 per stage. Bring your lunch!

If you're short on cash, you can also join by winning a cosponsored or approved TOUR event. In most PGA TOUR open events there is an open qualifying round conducted by the PGA Section where the event is held. The winners (four low scorers) advance to that event. This open qualifying round is usually played that Monday of tournament week and is open to all professionals and amateurs with a USGA handicap of 2 or less.

At the end of each year, the top 125 money-winners on the Tour get a tour card for the next season. This exempts the from having to qualify for most of the tournaments in the following year. Now, if you've been fortunate (and good) enough to have run the gauntlet once, these avenues open up for you.

Or win as much money during the season as the 150th finisher on the money list in the previous year. Lastly, if you finish in the top 20 on the Nationwide Tour your membership is secure. Oh, one final qualifying note - You've got to be at least 18 years old.

Swings And Cha-Chings!

We've all seen it. Winners of these tournaments bring home enough bacon to satisfy even Jabba the Hutt. The prize money seems enormous by most people's standards. $700,000 for a first place finish and even the guys bringing up the rear in 60th and 70th place are cashing $8,000 checks. Where do I sign up?
The formula for these incredible paychecks is actually pretty standard for PGA TOUR events. 18 percent of the money earned at an event is earmarked to the winner and decreases to 0.2 percent for a 70th place finish. A guy could make a living doing this!

When it comes right down to it, some of these guys are making a great living doing something we can only dream about. But therein lies their secret. They were dreaming the same thing, most of them, at a very young age. They put thousands of hours into practice, made sacrifices we would never think of and in most cases dished out lots of cash for lessons, entry fees and travel costs to be where they are today.

The PGA TOUR was formed to represent and protect these giants of the game, their dreams and their goals. Its mission is to promote the sport and the gamesmanship and ethics the game of golf represents. It's charitible donations are one more way for its players to give back to the people and its community.

Golf Bags: Equipment That Should Be Taken Seriously

After finishing a session with the pro on how to master that swing, it is now time to buy the equipments. This is the exciting part since buying sports equipment in general tends to excite the player and feel how it pars with the other brands. So by this time the set of clubs are complete with the dilemma of what bag to put the clubs on. A golf club can be essential to the game since this can be a major distraction to you and to the other players.

Having a golf bag that is heavy can drain your energy and may fatigue the shoulder and back muscles early on. Also, a bag that is disorganized and lacks the right compartments can put the golfer out of focus when trying to find something and may as well distract other players.

The first consideration for this will be the budget. After buying the clubs and the shoes, how much money is left for the bag. Golf bags come in different types, color, form and brands. After establishing which models and product lines to consider that is within the budget, its time to check whether you would want it to be a carry on or a push cart type bag.

The advantage of the carry on golf bag is that it's cheaper and lighter to carry by the shoulders. But be sure to gauge yourself first if you are fit enough to carry this while walking since it could strain your back. When buying a carry on type, make sure that it can stand by itself so it won't feel tired of putting it down for a swing and carrying it up again when walking. Another advantage of a golf bag that stands by itself it keeps the clubs well organized and accessible. The downside to it is it's a carry on so you have to literally carry it by the shoulders which can be straining to the back.

Another alternative to the carry on golf bag is the push cart type bag. This bag has a built in structure that has wheels attach to it so it can just be dragged while walking. This can be a little bit expensive due to the push cart structure. This is a heavy bag to carry on the shoulders so if you are the type of golfer that carries golf bags by the shoulders push cart types are not for you.

A golf bag may be a small factor in winning games but this can surely help a lot. Having a great looking golf bag can boost the golfer's moral and confidence which could translate to better form and fewer strokes.

You Don't Have To Suffer With An Imperfect Golf Swing

Golfers today are most concerned about inconsistency, slicing and distance. Golf is one of the most difficult games to master and most golfers just don't have the time to put into it nor the time to practice to significantly improve it. In order to play golf well you need good hand-eye coordination, good balance, knowledge of golf swing biomechanics, some athletic ability and a little creativity.

Understanding the golf swing is one of the first steps you can take toward improvement. Keep positive energy flowing and don't give in to any negative thoughts while you're playing. You want to play golf with supreme confidence. Know that you're improving your swing each time you play. A common mental error golfers make when driving the ball is to hit it as hard as they possibly can.

It's difficult for a golfer to practice hitting shots longer than short pitch shots at home. It pays to practice at a driving range or indoor golf training facility if you're lucky enough to have one in your area.

Many left-handed golfers prefer the right-handed golf swing. Now when you swing, if you have problems with your left knee buckling, then imagine holding a soccer ball between your knees. And use the basic 'hitchhiker' position when working on your backswing. At the end of a backswing the hands should be above the right shoulder with the golf club pointing in the intended direction of the ball flight. And you don't want to grip the club too tightly.

When you swing the club, use the muscles in your legs and trunk. The most important thing about the swing is the angle, not the strength that's applied to it, that's one of the many secrets to a perfect and proper golf swing. And accomplished golfers purposely use sidespin to steer the ball around course obstacles or head toward the safe side of fairways and greens.

Before you swing, make sure you're relaxed. Contract all your muscles tightly for a moment, and then relax them. Make sure to always focus on the proper golf swing technique.

You don't want to underestimate the value of fitness when it comes to your swing and your overall golf game. One tip: hold a medicine ball in front of you and turn back and forth. It must be rotational if you want to improve your driving distance. The proper golf swing is mostly rotational so it does makes sense to concentrate on your turning ability as it relates to range of motion and speed. To prevent injuries and improve your swing speed and distance requires that your body be strong and flexible.

Ask an expert for advice on golf swing trainers - someone who is not associated with the shop you would normally buy equipment from. If you need an aid to improve your stance they're easy to find. Whether or not you're a seasoned golfer or just starting out, pick just one trainer or aid and go to work on a natural swing.

And make sure to look for reviews and ratings online or offline for any golf swing trainer you're considering. There are lots of good aids on the market today. Golf swing trainers and aids will improve your golf game if used correctly.

Golf trainers are often available for sale at your pro shop or local golf shop. Some sporting goods stores also have trainers and aids to improve your game. Before buying any trainer check with an expert to get an idea of what problem you need to work on first, like the backlift of your swing or the momentum of downward thrust or stance.

Make sure to find and use good aids to help improve your game. Try to concentrate on just one of the weaknesses in your swing at a time. Get out on the driving range with all your custom golf clubs, golf bag and other equipment as often as you can.

There are many ways to get swing tips, game tips and instruction so when you do have time to hit the course, you'll have a plan in mind. Even seasoned golfers can never get enough good and free golf swing tips.
