Chip and Pitch Shots - Valuable Considerations

In golf, chip and pitch shots are all about making crisp contact with the ball first and you do this by hitting positively down into the back of the ball. If the players you played with had said, "nice pitch" when you really chipped, then they are just referring it to as a good shot without noticing the difference between chip and pitch.

In other words, great recovery shots are the result of well-made chip and pitch hits. If you want to succeed at learning to play golf and becoming a better player, it is essential that you increangly hone your skills in doing chip and pitch shots. In order to play a successful hole, or to make up for poor driving or long iron play, you must be able to chip and pitch the ball well.

The Important Recognition

You need to recognize that most golfers will spend 90% of their time making shots that are far from being on-target and that then lead to recovery shots.

In order to score well you must learn to recover from these off-target shots. In other words, great recovery shots are the result of well executed chip and pitch hits.

No matter how accurate and how well you are able to perform from the tee, without developing expertise at your short game, you will not be able to enjoy the exuberance that comes from lowering your scores. Remember that your short game is what matters most. By executing a great chip or pitch, you bay be able to tower over the scoring zone (that 6' circle around the hole).

Is It a Chip or a Pitch

When playing golf, no game is the same, and you may not always hit the ball onto the green with the standard amount of shots taken. Many times your ball will land somewhere within the range of a short iron shot from the green. This is when you have to decide if it is best to do a chip, or is the pitch the right choice. Sometimes the decision is not clear-cut.

The Chip Shot: A chip shot is made when your ball lands within 5 to 10 feet from the putting surface. Said another way, it is simply any shot that you make which is close to the green. Your goal when making a chip shot is simply to lag the ball just as close to the hole as possible in order that you have a very easy putt.

The Pitch Shot: A pitch shot is made when the ball lands further from the green. Although the chip and the pitch are hit from different distances, the objective is the same. You want your pitch shot to end just as close to the hole as possible.

Conclusion:

Chip and pitch shots make up the crux of the short game. If you want to succeed at learning to play golf and becoming a better player, it is essential that you learn how to chip and pitch great shots. In other words, great recovery shots are the result of well-made chip and pitch hits. In order to play a successful hole, or to make up for poor driving or long iron play, you must be able to chip and pitch the ball well.

A great deal of success is in your frame of mind, In other words, deeply believe that you have the creativity, courage, and concentration to chip and pitch well. This is a big step toward your success.

Help for Golf Beginners - Get Started Fast

One of the hardest things for golf beginners to realize is the amount of finesse that it takes in order to put the ball into the hole, no matter what kind of shot they are attempting to take. But, on the other hand, don't get blinded by too much science, while you're still a beginner.

Beginners often find it highly useful to learn the basic golf swing mechanics that are in fact responsible for the success or the failure of both long and short shots. Beginners should learn the basics of grip, stance and posture, then build from a small swing to a full swing in easy stages. But, a beginner needs to realize that even on a good day he/she may spend 15 to 20 strokes chipping up to the green. There are a number of golf tips for beginners, but the best way to learn is simply to get out on the course and play.

Taking The Ambiguity Out Of Golf's Fundamentals

If you are just starting out in golf yourself, the best advice is to understand that it's going to take a long time just to get the basics down. You will have your ups and your downs. Learning new techniques while working within your individual style will come in lots of spurts and lots of periods of retreat.

A new technique that you are trying to learn may seem impossible one day, then, through practice and repetition, it will simply come naturally another day in the future.

Stick To The Basics

Stick to the basics is the best approach (a universal strategy that works in every aspect of daily living). As you work your way through golf's plateaus, peaks, and valleys, the most important thing to remember is to stick to the fundamentals.

Strive to improve each and every time you play the game. Learn that tenacity and continuity are just as important as making contact with the ball. The ultimate reward for your positive attitude and consistency in playing on the course will be a strongly improved game, and co-incidentally, the development of a lifelong golf passion.

Become "Friends" With Your Clubs

When you begin learning the fundamentals of golf, another golden nugget of advice that I learned along the way is to stick with the same golf clubs for at least 1 to 2 years. You will be sorely tempted to make much more frequent updates to your equipment. But, when you are experiencing the early stages of golf, the equipment you use should rarely be changed. In this way, you can experience as much stability as possible.

Trusting the same clubs during your initial year or two of golf will also help minimize variables that can affect your game in a negative way. For example, by sticking with the same driver during this time frame, you will learn to identify what factors are making a positive contribution to your tee shots. Changing clubs too often, especially during this learning period, will add confusion in knowing whether your technique has improved.

Conclusion

Golf beginners who are truly committed will eat, drink and sleep golf. Such beginners will have an early on understanding that it will be extremely frustrating in the beginning. That is because the amount that must be learned is truly overwhelm

Achieving Consistency In Your Golf

Golf is a game of skill that requires logic and athleticism in equal measure. Furthermore it requires an immeasurable degree of practice and repetition to engrain swing changes and to improve your game. In fact, Nick Faldo once estimated that it takes 10,000 swings before you can achieve any deliberate change in your swing, which goes to show the extent to which it is necessary to practice your game. In this article, we will look at some of the key things to consider when striving for consistent game play, and the best ways of achieving these objectives whatever your level of play.

The first way to achieve consistency is to maintain a standard set up. That means making sure your stance, grip and alignment are consistent every time. Set up as normal in the same way, and then make the necessary changes to account for your upcoming shot. If you repeat your set up often enough, it will stick and become your natural response to hitting a golf ball. This is a great state to be in, because it can really allow you to focus on other aspects of your game without having to worry about your set-up.

Similarly it is imperative to establish a consistent pre-shot routine. You should always approach the ball in the same way, prepare your identical stance in the same way, and visualize your shot in the same way. By repeating this process, you can again establish a confidence in your natural swing that allows you to work on different areas of your golf and really work on cutting down that handicap to a respectable figure. Golf is centered on consistency, and if you're not consistently consistent, you're not consistent at all.

Above all you should maintain the same mental approach to your game. Plan and focus before every shot, and don't let the demons creep in. Through practicing the same routine, you establish a comfort zone on the golf course, which allows you make the necessary changes to your game to improve scores, without having to worry about the impact on the rest of your game.

Golf is not an easy game - no one ever said it was. And that's half the fun, of course. If you manage to find a rhythm and develop some form of consistent ball-striking, you'll notice vast improvements in your scoring abilities. It all comes to don to practice which, as always, really does make perfect.

Tips To Improve Your Golfing

A fine and experienced golfer is not necessarily a good teacher of the game. Why? Because many cracks do not know how they play themselves - when it comes to anything like a close analysis of their shots - and they have no idea at all of how a beginner must feel in order to make the shots that they make.

Let me illustrate that last point, because it is fundamental to teaching and to learning. All crack players feel that they swing from in-to-out when driving. I have been doing this so long that it no longer feels a "guided" or unnatural swing to me. Indeed if I feel myself making any other sort of swing I know it will result in a bad shot.

Yet with the beginner this in-to-out swing does feel unnatural and gives an impression that the ball will be pushed into the rough to the right. This feeling will of course be corrected by experience. This disparity in feeling about shots as between the crack and the beginner must never be lost sight of in teaching.

Every teacher has to keep continually in mind the fact that the natural thing for any golfer to do if he thinks first of hitting the ball to the hole rather than of making the shot correctly - is to swing the club head down the desired line of flight. The urge to do this is so strong that a merely academic knowledge of where the club head ought to be felt to go cannot stand against it. William James said that where there is a conflict between the Will and the Imagination, the Imagination always wins.

So no Will to make a correct swing - unless reinforced by our conscious control-can resist, when imagination of the ball flying straight for the hole supervenes. What usually happens is that before the back swing is completed, the player transfers his attention from the matter of making the correct swing to the matter of where he wants to hit the ball, i.e., somewhere at the top of his swing he switches from a correct in-to-out swing to one along the desired line of flight. Consequently he comes down outside the ball.

It is quite useless to tell a pupil he has done wrong when acting instinctively unless you tell him why he did wrong and so enable him to avoid the fault in future. That I always do.

The player who comes down outside is almost invariably thinking of where he wants to put the ball, and the only effective way of overcoming his trouble is by getting him to concentrate on the swing that experience tells him will place it there. If this is done his conscious control - his feeling for the right movements, plus a steady intention to follow will inhibit his natural desire to take disastrous short cuts.

A swing must be built up which can be accepted by the mind as well as the muscles as a satisfactory means to the end desired, and then concentrating on the production of that swing. With a properly felt swing, the swing becomes the aim and the matter of where the ball will fly is left (as it should be) to take care of itself.

And finally, the good golfer feels his swing as all one piece. It is produced by a psycho-physical unison and its control is outside the mind of the player. Any control that is within the mind is subject to the state of the mind and is therefore unreliable.

A single sound line of controls is set up if the student has consistently practiced the same fundamental swing for every shot. Working on these lines and refusing to be side-tracked by extraneous ideas such as "hitting a long ball" or "driving straight down the middle," you can begin to feel a complete assurance that you can at least rely upon producing your best shots every time. They will become a habit with you.

Golf Driving Tips To Help You Hit The Ball Farther

Driving a golf ball well can be a great challenge. The driver is the hardest club in the bag to hit and requires a lot of skill to master. The first key to driving the golf ball well is to swing well within yourself. Many players when they are trying to drive a golf ball far try to use their muscle power thinking that using more muscle will mean more distance.

This is a common misconception, remember that there are many players out there that have very thin builds and they hit the ball very far. How is this possible? These golfers have learned that distance is a function of an accurate golf swing combined with club head speed. Swinging easy or within your limits will give you a better chance of making a more accurate golf swing.

The key to greater club head speed is to create more lag or leverage. Lag is defined as the angle that is created between the club and your left hand. You want this angle to be small and you need to hold this angle for as long as possible before impact. This will allow maximum energy to be released through the hitting zone and will translate to greater distance.

One simple way to create more lag is to think of the club as a whip and use a whipping motion through the hitting zone. Also starting the downswing with a weight shift toward the target before bringing down the club can also help to produce greater leverage. It is important to stay fully under control when executing your golf swing. One way to check if you are under control is whether or not you are balanced at the end of the swing.

If you see that you are losing balance then you may need to slow things down a little and not try as hard. Relax and let the club do most of the work. Another important thing to keep in mind is that the driver you are using should fit your swing type. If you have a slower swing speed then you should use a driver with a regular flex. However if your swing speed is higher then you will want a driver with a stiff flex.

Also make sure your driver is not too long, usually 42 to 45 inches is the ideal length for most people. Another good tip to help you hit the golf ball far is to think of your left shoulder driving straight up towards the sky when the downswing starts. This will help to get the club on the right plane for the downswing and will also help to create more lag.

It is important to be effective with your wedges and short irons first before you try to master the driver. Remember that the driver swing is simply an extension of the smaller swings so if you are having problems hitting a wedge then you will almost certainly struggle with the driver. Many of the best players learned how to hit short clubs first before trying to master the longer ones so follow their lead.

To consistently hit the driver far and straight will require consistent practice on your part.
There are now many home golf simulators for under $200 that you can purchase. Just make sure you have some free space to swing your clubs freely. These simulators can allow you to practice regularly right at home and can be effective. Of course try to go to the range and the course as much as you can too. There are no shortcuts to becoming a better golfer so put in the time and effort necessary to learn how to drive a golf ball far and straight.

How To Choose The Right Golf Wedge

Improving your short game is something that can be most effectively accomplished through intensive instruction at a golf academy. In addition to the golf academy experience, anyone can improve their short game by choosing the right golf wedge. If you have ever watched a pro tournament, you have noticed that players can hit shots in succession with each one stopping just inches away from the hole.

If you have wondered how this is possible, well, the golf wedge is the answer to this question. Golf wedges are clubs that are specially tailored and designed for the short game, which makes sense when you consider that approximately 70 percent of shots in a golf game are done from within 150 to 100 yards in. In other words, it is all well and good that you can drive over 250 yards from the tee, but it will not help you in your short game.

If you only have one wedge currently, you should definitely consider the purchase of more wedges to be essential, and if you are smart enough to bring your wedges with you during your next golf academy course, you will be able to learn the correct techniques for, and specializations of, each type in greater detail. If you have between 15 and 20 feet, for example, then you will want a lofted club, or one that has a face angled back from the vertical, like a sand wedge.

The loft of a wedge and the groves on the face of the club both work together to produce a spin rate, since the loft of a wedge is just another way of measuring the angle at which it hits the ball of off the ground, which in turn determines the trajectory of the ball and the amount of roll it produces. This is the reason why golf wedges are offered in degrees that vary from 47 to 64 degrees in order to better cater to surface conditions, as well as the distance and angle required to reach that distance.

What your golf academy instructor will tell you, and what all pros and serious golfers know, is that Golfers with a low handicap, less than ten strokes over par should have four wedges. Mid handicap golfers in the 11-25 handicap bracket should have three wedges, and golfers that are new with a 26 handicap or higher should begin with both a pitching wedge and a sand wedge.

Essential Golfing Tips For Your Next Trip To The Linx

Golf experts do agree on something. It is not possible to play a good stroke if your balance is not maintained throughout the swing. Keeping your balance sounds pretty simple. But it is nigh impossible when you have a death grip on the club, your arms and shoulders are stiff and you are trying to hit the ball with every ounce of strength can muster. Unfortunately, many people learn the wrong stance at the beginning and find it difficult to learn the correct one later, which is why golf academy instruction really is so essential.

Beginners are often warned to not try to hit the ball so hard. A little energy well directed and smoothly applied will drive the ball father than a monstrous effort that ends up not connecting the ball at the center of the club. If you are balanced, you have more freedom when hitting the ball.

You want to keep your head in one spot, your eyes on the ball clearly. Actually the steadier you keep your head in one spot, the better you see the ball. This is all part of creating your foundation of balance. Anything that tips you off balance makes it impossible to see the ball clearly. You must keep your head still and not move it from the spot in which you start. Your golf academy instructor can help you master this technique.

Practice in front of a mirror and you will see that your muscles really do need to be relaxed in order for you to keep your head still during a swing. No two people have the same frame or physique. So you have to work out some things for yourself. But always start with the foundation of keeping your head in one position. If your head is still, you can see the ball clearly and you will turn your hands at the right instant.

Just by keeping your head perfectly still you will correct a lot of faults. You can not grip your club incorrectly without at some point disturbing your balance and moving your head.
And you can not keep your balance unless you follow through correctly.

If your mind is concentrated on keeping your balance and keeping your head still, you will not over swing or jerk your club away. You will not put forth too much effort forth at any one point. You will not be stiff and you will have a smooth, even rhythm to your swing and a nice finish.

Balance really is the cure-all for many faults of golf. It takes time before you see improvement, so be patient. Think about keeping your head still and maintaining your balance at all times and you will have a foundation for an excellent golf game and be able to benefit even more from your first golf academy experience.

Want to Improve Your Golfing Skills? You Dare Not Miss This...

You are a golf player and you do normal workouts day in and day out. But you know what? Normal workouts are not enough for a golf player.

So, here are some specific exercises and tips that you need to do in order to be a successful golf player:

First let me tell you few things that you should avoid:

1. Say no to alcohol and caffeine. Coffee can over fuel your mind and body leading in an uncontrolled performance. Too much of alcohol can also affect you in the same way.

2. Meals- If you need all that energy then do not skip meals. At the same time do not have too much of food as it might affect your concentration and performance. Try to have meal 2 hours before the game and include lot of carbohydrate content in your food. Always remember to drink lot of water. Do not try new food items just before starting the game.

Follow these few tips and improve your golfing skills:

1. Develop a consistent warm-up routine before you play. Warm up your muscles before a round of golf, by doing this you may avoid those aches and pains.

2. Do strengthening exercises. Do curls with lightweight dumbbells which will help to strengthen your arms. If you are still confused on what kind of exercise to choose you can consult you fitness trainer.

3. Stretch at least three times a week, paying
particular attention to your back, shoulders, and arms. Be sure to warm-up for 10-15 minutes before play.

4. Physical strength is one of the important factors for a golfer. There are definitely some benefits to physical strength when it is NOT overdone. Physical fitness can include exercises like stretching.

5. Being fit can strengthen your muscle groups so that you can concentrate on things like balance and coordinating the upper and lower body during the stroke. The arms, abdominals and legs are a good example of three important groups that have to work together to produce a decent swing. By strengthening your muscles, you will have better control of your body. Strength training involves body awareness, muscular control, and coordination. These are all key elements for enhanced golf.

6. Improve your breathing skills while playing.

7. Using a free weight, curl your wrist upwards and hold for ten seconds. Relax for few minutes or so and repeat this for twice or more.

8. If you want to increase your swing without increasing weight, row yourself forward using just one arm at a time. Remember to always stretch before and after any workout.

Follow these tips and you will hopefully be a leaner, stronger, and a fitter golfer.

Specific Goals And Objctives Of GOlf

All the parts of golf that may be used in playing a round of golf. By improving a few or many of these parts reflects in your overall score.

So if you have a goal to improve your scores, first work out what your personal par is for a course. Use your handicap or an average of your last five scores. Then have a look at these scores and work out how many birdies, pars, bogeys, double bogeys or worse you have.

Eliminating your bad holes is usually the best way to reduce your scores. Work out how many tee shots you hit in the fairway, greens you hit in regulation, up and downs, total putts, putts per green in regulation, number of greens you can hit from 100 and 50 metres, and sand saves. Then set goals for improvement in each area.

If you are 18 handicap or above and your scores are over 90, your green in regulation calculation will be one more as your par score is really a bogey.

Next, work out how well you can play shots to targets. If you know your percentages of success with certain shots, it will help your decision making on the course. You will avoid the high risk shots that if missed will put you in areas where you face a difficult shot with a low success rate and therefore make higher scores than taking a conservative approach.

If you see that there are shots that are difficult for you or you see areas that need improvement, then you can start to set technique goals. The better your fundamentals, the more consistent your game will be. Then there are small adjustments to the way you play a shot that add variations to help in certain situations.

You might go to your pro to find out some new shots or play with better players and ask them. Wherever you get your knowledge, you'll need to do some practice to master them. So that's the next area to set your goals.

What are you going to practice? How long are you going to practice? Where are you going to practice? How can you tell if the practice is working? That's a lot to keep track of, but it is the only way to get better.

There are lots of books on golf which give you a better idea of where your game is at and help you decide what to work on.

Improve Your Swing Or Lower Your Scores?

As a golf teacher, I have been helping people with their golf for over 17 years.

Usually, the first thing a golfer wants fixed is their golf swing so they can get rid of their slice or get more distance. And they give me 30 minutes to do it.

I learned very early to ask the question - "Do you want me to put a band aid on your swing or lower your scores and reduce your handicap?"

A great drive is a good experience but a consistent overall game that wins the trophy satisfies a lot longer.

I try to get someone to play 9 holes with me so I can assess their overall game and also give them a standard they can aspire to. Shooting around 80 should not really be too difficult for the average player.

I played with a mate the other day who was worried about his slice and ball striking in general. He proceeded to hit the best drive of his life on the first hole but it just caught the fairway bunker.

He got it out of there and hit a pitch onto the green to about 30 feet, but then hit it 6 feet past and missed it for 6.

He also three putted the next and missed a 4 foot putt for birdie on the next hole. He was playing well, but had thrown three shots away in the first three holes. And when he duffed one into the water on the next hole, he ran up a 9. Another double bogey on the next short par 3 with a poor chip that overshot the green, another in the water on the next and he was ready to listen to an overall approach to improving his game.

Now you might be a better golfer than my friend, or worse, but the question remains - Do you want to lower your scores? If you do, it will take an overall approach, improving each area of your game so if one part of your game is falling down, you can rely on another part to limit or repair the damage.

To improve your golf requires a plan, something like Project Golf (not Project Golf Swing, which is just part of the overall plan).Improvement has its rewards.

Following an improvement plan will make you a much better player. The better you play, the more fun you have. The better player you are will help you appreciate the challenge of the top courses.

You will have the knowledge that you have the tools to overcome the challenges of golf that very few people experience.

You will be able to beat the other people who are too lazy or have egos that are too big to think they can improve without some intelligent thinking and organized practice.

They will remain confused about golf, wondering why other people play better than them while they jump from new club to new club, tip to tip and theory to theory while their performances stay inconsistent.

You can achieve your goals in golf if you assess where you are at in each area of the game, get the knowledge of the fundamentals, plan which areas to work on, practice these areas, test how they go when practicing and playing, and reassess so you can go through the cycle again. Have fun, be persistent and have patience.

Selecting Photos Of Golf Tournaments

A certain type of golfer might play professionally but still might need photos to reach a certain level of inspiration during a golf game. Golfers like Tiger Woods might get a certain inspiration to play golf better by glancing at photographs of his beautiful wife occasionally. When charging for the lead scoring position in a golf game though, Tiger Woods might just glance for a while at a photograph of his newborn child to get all the inspiration he needs to win another title.

Some amateur golfers get their inspiration to play golf in the same manner. They might be totally inspired by the way Tiger Woods plays golf and will study videos and photographs to learn the right stance that worked for Tiger on the course just a few weeks before. They might be inspired by the brand of golfing equipment that any professional golfer uses during a tournament and will be motivated enough to purchase a set of clubs that match.

Selecting certain photos of golf tournaments that are held throughout the year could inspire some amateur golfers to play an amazing game of golf on any morning. The photos that offer stellar views of fairways with galleries of spectators migrating from one hole to another might put them in a dream state for a while as they fantasize that the professional golfer in the photo is actually them in real life. Other aspiring golfers might just visit the clubhouse and take photos of the trophy cases.

Some dreams that center on professional golfing goals are vividly colored and suitable for real life situations. These dreams of greatness will most certainly be captured in many photo opportunities that are spaced out along the golf tournament trail. Some fans might ask a professional golfer to pose for a photograph after they have sunk a birdie on a difficult round of golf. These professional photo opportunities might seem glorious at the time but will still not present any daydreamer with a check at the end of the tournament he is viewing.

The pleasing applause offered by the crowds in the gallery at every golf hole will be the only form of realism that some new golfers might be exposed when they are following an idol around during the day. The photos that picture the fan with the golf pro are the photos that will serve as a support system for the amateur that will make his daydreams of becoming the king of golf seem real. Some fans get so inspired from these treasured photos that they will often practice more and see their golf score improve dramatically over the course of a few weeks.

The victory photographs taken at the 18th hole or at the clubhouse might allow the amateur golfer to dream some more about how great they will play the game of golf one day. Photos that allow amateur golfers to dream will always be surrounded by helpful commentaries of sports writers that might contain useful hints and tricks that will help them improve their golf game. An avid golfer in training will take any type of information they are given and use it to improve their skills each week.

Golf Mental Game Tips To Help You Reduce Your Scores

The game of golf is one of the most mental games in the world. It is one of the few sports where you control when you make a play. The ball just sits there on the fairway or green and it is up to you to take as much or little time as you want to hit it. Most other sports you are forced to make a play due to pressure from the competition. Learning how to master the mental game is perhaps the key to unlocking your unlimited potential as a golfer.

The best players in the world have learned to master the mental game of golf and that is what makes them great. Positive thinking and confidence are critical in becoming a great player. Of course, you will need to still practice regularly on the mechanics in order to maintain your skills. However just working on mechanics alone will only get you so far at the game of golf and you will reach a plateau.

In order to break through that plateau you must develop the ability to maintain and build confidence regardless of what happened on the last shot good or bad. Maintaining confidence is a great challenge however there are many things you can do to become a more confident player.

The first step is to see yourself as a great player. You need to remind yourself regularly of all the great shots you have ever hit and all the great putts you have ever made. Take a few minutes out of each day to think about your top five greatest shots ever and also see yourself playing well in the next round you will be playing. Be realistic, so every now and then you may picture yourself missing a green or fairway but then also picture yourself recovering and making those shots back in the next few holes.

The way you think as you are about hit the ball is very important. You must learn to trust your mechanics and in your ability to execute mechanics without consciously thinking about it. Instead you need to stay focused on the targets you select and block out other thoughts. A good exercise to help you to develop this focus is by concentrating on the tip of a pen. Try only to think about the tip of the pen and nothing else. If other thoughts enter your mind then return your focus back on the pen.

Learning about proper course management is also essential in order to play better golf. Many times you will be tempted to hit shots that are too difficult based on your current skill level. You must resist this temptation and hit the shot you know you can hit and that you have hit before several times in practice.

Sometimes laying up on a par 4 can often be the best option in order to shoot low scores. Rely more on your short game to help you make pars and as your long game gets better you will inevitably make more birdies. When picking clubs make sure that you select a club that you can comfortably swing to get the ball to the hole, if you have to take an extra club if it means being able to make an easier swing.

Do not get caught up in what your playing partners are doing and try to match their distance. Also remember that golf really is an individual sport so do not try to beat your playing partners but rather focus on playing the course and shooting the lowest score possible on that day. Use some of the mental strategies to help you lower your golf handicap.

Choosing A Golf School Thats Best For You

The truth is that when it comes to choosing education, there are a lot of options available, and each one claims to be the best, which can make it hard to decide, especially if you have never attended one before. This article will focus on tips to help you make this important choice.

The faculty is an important factor to consider, since they are the ones that ultimately shape your experience. Many top instructors have achieved their own personal brand recognition, and taking the time to educate yourself about the different faculty members, including their PGA or LPGA membership status and career bios will go a long way towards helping you decide if a particular school is right for you. Another thing to think about is whether or not you would prefer to have private or group instruction, and how well the education that you are considering can accommodate your preferences.

The campus itself should play a major part in your decision, particularly the facilities and any extracurricular activities offered. A truly stellar institution will incorporate lodging in its course packages as well. Whether you prefer a secluded mountain retreat style atmosphere or somewhere near a city with an active nightlife, you can find an academy that meets your needs with a little research and planning. Your personal learning style and method should be taken into account when making a decision as well, since some schools are more geared towards high tech or high touch, or other types of learning styles, while others are equipped to handle all learning styles or combinations thereof.

When your instruction is complete, what will your next step be? You have probably heard that instruction today is focused on specialization, which is why it is important to talk with a representative of the different academies that you are considering to learn more about their philosophy and also, communicate your specific needs and areas of game specialization, i.e. driving, short game, iron play, etc. before you sign up. Daily practice is also a factor to consider, since you will naturally want to practice between instruction sessions. Find out if the instruction you are considering includes the price of daily rounds in its instruction packages, or whether you will be charged extra for this.

Choosing the right instruction does not have to be difficult and it should not. Do your homework, weigh your options, and you will be well on your way to a fulfilling and productive instructional experience.

You Will Never Improve Your Golf Swing Without Spending Thousands of Dollars

Does improving your golf swing without spending thousands of dollars seem impossible? And is it painfully obvious that thousands of people claim to know some expensive "secret" for golf swing instruction - and yet they have no proof? And you haven't gotten the improvement that you deserve?

The human body is capable of learning virtually any kind of behavior and movement. But the golf swing seems to be impossible for some to master. Golfing actions can be excruciatingly awkward for most people to learn (unless, like Tiger Woods, they have been doing them since early childhood). But you can't go back and change your childhood to learn to golf, can you?

But what if you had a way to make the unfamiliar become familiar? What if you could make golfing feel correct from deep inside the core of your movement and your self? And you could do this without spending thousands of dollars and breaking the bank?

Golf Swing Instruction: Imitation Is Not Learning.

Golf Pros and instructors often teach us the game by having us imitate golf mechanics. They ask us to imitate a "good" swing, a "good" putt, and "good" hand placement. But as you may already know from your lack of desired improvement: When learning golf, imitation can only take you so far.

Have you, or anybody that you know, won a golf tournament by imitating Tiger Woods or Jack Nicklaus? Probably not. Why does imitation of other's golf swing techniques rarely (if ever) give you the improvement that you crave?

The reason is that the dynamics of your movement are greatly different from the dynamics of the person that you are imitiating. It's a little like putting on some of your old clothing from when you were younger. The clothes rarely fit, and even if they did, they are out-of-date and out-of-style. Who needs that?

True improvement in your golf swing, true comfort while playing, and true mastery on the course, will come from learning the seemingly hidden dynamics of your own movement. This type of learning, often called "sensory-motor learning", is how you first learned to move as a child. It's less commonly used in adults, but it is still possible to access it.

What Is Sensory Motor Learning And How Does it Apply to Golf?

Sensory motor learning involves sound scientific principles from the field of motor learning and human development. It is the most effective way to improve your golf swing and to feel good while doing it. It involves feeling, sensing, and learning from your own natural movements.

Part of the process is getting yourself into a relaxed and open state so that you can learn to feel the inner dynamics of your movement. Once you know what you are doing, and once you feel what you are doing, you can build the perfect golf swing based on your own natural tendencies.

Where Do You Begin The Process Of Using Sensory-Motor Learning To Improve Your Golf Swing?

I am sorry to say, that you can't improve your golf swing by reading about the techniques in some over-priced e-book or DVD series. You will actually have to do the techniques and get comfortable with the idea of trying some new and often strange movements.

For instance, what if I had you lie on the floor and engage in an entire sequence of movements designed to improve the coordination of your head, eyes and neck? What if I told you to keep your eyes closed the entire time, so that you could have greater focus on yourself and your body? Would you be willing to do that?

If not, you won't be able to benefit from sensor motor learning systems. Go spend a $1000 on the latest "miracle" swing technique. However, if you are willing to explore, you can find a whole wealth of new possibilities and golf swing improvement.

The most evolved practitioners of sensory motor learning are often "alternative health practitioners" such as those who do the Feldenkrais Method, Alexander Technique, or Rolfing. These practitioners are taught to help you change the inner dynamics of your movement so that you can evolve your technique on many levels.

The trick is to find a practitioner who understands the needs and desires of golfers. But what if they do not? Consider that a slight improvement in your ability to sense and feel from your core could unleash a whole new potential in your ability to improve your swing. You are smart enough to take those learnings and apply them to your swing, are you not?

Ryan C. Nagy, M.A. is a University Professor who uses the Feldenkrais Method and other sensory-motor learning systems to unlock human potential.

He has created several ground breaking audios in the field of skill acquisition and learning. See him at: http://mygolfmp3.com and http://xbackpain.com

The Right Golf Gear For The Game

When you are gearing up for that first school experience, there is one thing that you do not want to be without: the perfect bags. Gear bags are not only essential in that they hold your clubs, shoes, and other accessories, they are also, like any other type of luggage, a reflection of your individual tastes, style, and personality. Some people carry very little in their bags, while others like to show up for their school lessons with an extra set of clubs, four bottles of water, two pairs of shoes, four towels, and a first aid kit. This is why taking the time to discover which type of carrying case is right for you is so important.

For those who prefer a walking game, there are several lightweight models and designs available that are strong and user friendly. These are designed to carry just the basics, and allow for the versatility of a walking game with the ability to carry clubs with greater ease. The style you choose can be anything from a basic, no frills color scheme, to a bright, bouncy hue, although you should keep in mind that while on the fairway, austere colors are really considered to be more par for the course, particularly for the professionals and those who aspire to become professionals.

For those who know that you prefer a cart, then you will want to find one that is specially designed for this purpose, i.e. to fit securely in the cart without tipping over. In this case, the weight of the bag does not matter as much, since you will not be carrying it around on your back, but it is usually a good idea to carry a small, lightweight carry style bag for just the bare essentials so that you will not have to drive your cart to every hole.

The lucky ones have caddies to carry their gear for them, but for most of us, while at school and otherwise, do not have this privilege. If you do, then the weight is not an issue unless you notice that your caddie is having trouble lifting it. Otherwise, remember that even if your bag is strapped to your cart, and especially if you choose a carry bag for your walking game, less is always more.

Last, but not least, price is always a factor. Though it goes without saying that the more money you spend, the more special features and customization options your bag will likely have, but remember, it is not a direct part of your game, its just an accessory to enhance your game presence and keep you from having to carry an armload of clubs across the course.

How To Swing A Golf Club For Maximum Effect

If you have been playing golf for some time and don't know how to swing a golf club yet then you've got to consider whether you're really serious about improving your game.

When we say how to swing a golf club we mean using the correct fundamentals. It's amazing how even the slightest tweak can make a noticeable difference to your game. In this article, we are not going to explain the entire procedure of swinging a club but will give you some tips on how you might improve both your golf swing and your game.

Improving Your Golf Game

All the techniques in the world will do you no good if you either:

- don't identify your swing problem areas and
- don't get the correct advice

Identifying your problem areas is a nightmare when trying to work things out on your own. One of the best ways to do this is to take a video of your golf swing. Ask a friend or someone you play with regularly to video you while you are teeing off or playing approach shots to the green.

This is a tactic more and more players are employing and one which can easily show you where you might be going wrong. If you are not experienced enough to pinpoint the problem areas then it's on to plan B.

Get Some Coaching

This is an area many will resist simply because of the cost factor. Again, how serious are you about shooting lower scores? A coach will quickly identify the areas of your swing which need attention.

Remember that video you took. Take it with you to your coaching lesson and look over it with your tutor. The attractive thing about coaching is it doesn't have to be a long term exercise unless you want it to be. The primary reason you're enlisting the services of a coach is to identify the area of your golf swing which is giving you problems. Once this has been done, it's then off to the practice fairways to work on it.

Your coach may pinpoint your deficiencies within the first few minutes eliminating the need for future sessions. There is no point in thinking coaching will cost you a fortune because it doesn't. For the sake of a few bucks, your game can improve to the next level within a short period of time.

Getting advice on how to swing a golf club shouldn't come from your playing partners particularly if they are at the same level as you. A qualified tutor is a much better proposition.

The Advantages of Attending Golf Schools

Golf schools are becoming more popular for many reasons, the first being that they offer participants a distinct advantage over people who are determined to teach themselves. People who begin learning the wrong way have great difficulty correcting these bad habits later, but beginners who enroll in golf schools have the opportunity to experience proper guidance, direction, and training from the very beginning. Students are also provided with important golfing principles and insights into the sport and the right kind of expert guidance, direction, and training necessary to take their game to the next level.

Learning how to correctly swing, make shots, follow the proper rules and etiquette, and discovering individual specialization means that you will be able to avoid the most common stumbling block of beginning golfers, repeating the same mistakes multiple times. A Qualified instructor can help students to identify and correct mistakes and discover which areas of the game they need to work on the most and which ones they have already mastered or are currently excelling in. Since they are already well aware of the see strengths and weaknesses, it will be easy for them to track their progress and ask for valuable feedback from their instructors.

Golf schools organize programs and classes that have clear, structured objective sets designed to offer both motivation and direction, allowing learning to occur in a more natural, low pressure setting. The top golf schools know that players have high standards when it comes to their golf instruction, which is why these schools offer the most up to date facilities, equipment, and teaching methods to their students in order to provide them with the best possible advantage. Instructors and trainers work to identify areas of improvement for each individual student, and encourage them to strive toward improved performance and greater enjoyment and appreciation of the game and the skills required to really excel.

Golf schools require a large commitment in the form of both study and practice, which is why anyone who has never had a formal lesson should consider enrolling in a short course to prepare themselves for the intense practice and learning they will experience during their time at a golf school. Beginners, especially, should consider lessons and golf schools as essential steps in their goal of becoming more skilled, but the fact is that everyone can benefit from lessons and coaching, which is why golf schools really are advantageous for all truly serious and committed players, regardless of skill level.

Play Golf To Seal That Business Deal

Business and golf are synonymous. It is said that 8 out of 10 people that play golf are in a business decision making position and that playing golf with clients offers an 85% better chance of securing a business deal than other conventional methods of marketing or promoting your business. These impressive statistics make a strong case for including golf in your marketing strategy. Corporate golf days can benefit your client acquisition rates, client retention rates and staff morale. So what is involved in a corporate golf day, where can you have a corporate golf day and how much will it cost?

What is involved in a corporate golf day?

Corporate golf days differ from a normal round of golf in that they supplement a normal round with additional extras. Ordinarily a corporate golf day will include company signage as well as personalised and branded scorecards. These give the golf experience a personal touch dedicated to your business. Typically the corporate golf day will also include a scoreboard that enables a large number of players to keep up to date with the scores of the other players in the competition. This provides a touch that is reminiscent of professional golf tournaments and is an effective way of increasing friendly competition between the participating golfers.

The main benefit of a corporate golf day is that the golf course will usually provide staff to organise the day along the lines a professional tournament and create a really memorable event. The whole day can be organised to allow adequate time for a light breakfast, a lesson from a professional, a full round, a three course meal and finally a presentation ceremony. It is therefore an excellent introduction for golfers of all abilities.

Where can you have a corporate golf day?

Corporate golf days can be hosted at many golf clubs across the country. Of course it goes without saying that some courses have more experience delivering golf days than others and it is important to pick one that will be able to achieve what you expect from the day. For example if you want to host a large event with many golfers it is vitally important that the club you choose have the right level of experience in hosting events. It is less important for smaller golf days as these are generally easier to manage. It is also important to be clear with what you expect from the day. For example you may wish to have the event filmed or recorded by a photographer and it is important that you request this in advance.

How much do corporate golf days cost?

There is an enormous range of variables in a corporate golf event and as a result the cost can vary massively. If you are looking to host a top of the range corporate golf day then the price can be as high as you are willing to pay. Conversely if you want a cheap and cheerful event then you can keep costs low by cutting down on the additional extras. Top end packages can cost as much as 1045 pounds per person per day with top end packages starting at around 450 quid. Basic packages can range between 75 GBP and 290 GBP. London and the South East of the UK generally demands higher prices with Wales and the North offering cheaper rates.

The family budget can get stretched pretty thin if there is a golf fanatic in the house. The golfing widow might begin to worry about how a spouse's golf game will fit into married life once they retire. The budget will certainly show a lot of wear and tear when they are older if the spouse continues to play golf out of habit and the spouse might even voice those concerns a time or two throughout the year.

There is a good chance that the spouse will not hear a word that is spoken because they are concentrating on the golf addiction. There are many people who put the joys of golf ahead of other expenses at home when they are younger and make it a point to include golf in the plans for retirement too. Old habits die hard and it is very hard for an avid golfer to quit playing even if they are old and graying at the temples and to some, this time in life seems to be the perfect time to golf.

These golfers might try to ease the transition between the working years and retirement by trying to take care of future expenses pertaining to golf. They might choose to invest in new golf clubs long before the current set shows any wear or they might start getting lifetime memberships to many of the favorite golf courses that are close to home.

Some men are as focused on saving money for retirement because they know they are addicted to golf and know that they will have plenty of time then to pamper the golfing habit they have. These avid golfers know that they can play golf for as long as they want to when they retire and will probably arrange to go on golfing trips with buddies to many golf courses in the local area.

Golfers try to be supportive of golfing buddies because they realize how deep a golfing habit can get. They know that there are other people waiting at home who simply do not seem to understand it and will most certainly be mad if the game is played too often because the golf games are usually played on a weekend.

The golfer will earmark money in a savings account just for golfing adventures and watch that savings account mature into a sizable sum over a period of twenty or thirty years. The sizable balance will seem better than a hole in one every time the golfer spends it on basket of golf balls at a driving range.

Most wives do not want to support a golf habit for very long and at some points in the relationship, the wife might have inwardly wished that the spouse would quit playing golf altogether. The wife might want to use the cash spent on golf for travel when they retire but the spouse is usually not willing to give a bit of that money up to any other purpose other than golf.

The golfer is very supportive of his marriage and the love of the game of golf. Parting with funds that were grown for this purpose is one phase in life where they must draw the line. Instead of delving into golfing accounts the golfer can keep peace in other ways. He thoughtfully presents the wife with a retirement savings account of her own that he started many years ago and tells her to spend it on things that she loves to do.

Putting is perhaps the most mental aspect of the game of golf. The ball is just sitting there on the green and you can take as much or as little time as you want to hit your putts. Learning how to putt well will require discipline and effort on your part as it is a continuous process.

If you really want to realize your full potential as a putter then you will need to master the mental aspects of putting. However this does not mean that putting mechanics are not important. It is important to pick a putting style and putter you like and then stick with that approach and focus on the mental game to elevate your putting success.

A good mechanical tip is to keep your eyes directly over the ball as you putt. This will help you to see the line of the putt better. There are so many different putting styles and techniques that can work so the best thing to do is to try some of them and then make a firm decision to pick one approach and stick with that.

Do not try to chase the perfect putting stroke because it will lead to all kinds of putting problems. You may even end up developing the yips so stick with one mechanical approach and even just one putter unless it gets damaged and you need a replacement. Think of your putter as your own child. You would not just abandon it and replace it every few months would you? Of course, get the best quality putter you can to start with but do not change it if your putting starts to falter.

Rather look to the mental game to improve your putting results. Once you have a putting style and putter picked out you need to train your putting mechanics regularly. Often it is best to do this without hitting putts to a hole so just use your putter and a golf ball and do the necessary drills to keep your mechanics solid. You can even do this at home if you like.

The mental game of putting is a constant challenge as you will need to work on it both on the course and off. You will need to observe your thoughts and ask yourself whether or not the way you are thinking will help you or hurt you in developing more confidence as a putter. Confidence is the key factor you must build and maintain to be a consistently solid putter.

Your mind and body are extremely effective at judging the distance of a putt and executing the mechanics necessary to get the putt to the hole at the right speed and direction. However you need to avoid trying to actively think of distance or mechanics as you are about to strike the putt. You must develop a quiet mind that is focused sharply on the target when you are about to hit your putts.

Before you strike your putt you need to pick out a target. The break of a putt can influence the target you select. A good approach is to make all putts straight putts so if you think a putt will break 3 feet to the left then pick a target that is 3 feet to the right of the hole or imagine another hole 3 feet to the right of the real hole and putt to that.

Once you have selected a target you need to stay focused on that and only think of that as you strike the putt. Do not think about putting mechanics or how you missed the last putt or about dinner or anything else for that matter. Just let your mind and body work to automatically make the best stroke possible and eliminate distractions by staying focused on the target.

When it comes to reading greens the best thing to do is to trust your first impression. Take your time when you step up to a green and take a good look at your putt even from different angles but then come with a good first impression and then trust it. Apply some of these strategies to become the best putter you can be.
